Since the 2014 launch of the first Peloton exercise bike, the at-home workout experience has been completely changed.
Exercise bike exercises were famously boring and time-consuming until Peloton fitted their bikes with an internet-connected tablet. This allowed users to work out in groups with certified instructors, like in a group cycling class, producing an entirely new interactive workout experience.
2020 saw the development of a new Peloton Bike Plus. Comparing Peloton Bike vs Bike+, it has an enhanced fully rotating and marginally larger screen, an improved sound system with front and rear-facing speakers, and automatic resistance control. However, these new features come at a hefty price. Many new users still opt to purchase the Peloton original bike with its price reduction.
In this post, I want to evaluate the Peloton bike to determine whether it is still worth purchasing in 2024. I will review its essential features and examine its main advantages and disadvantages.

Overview
The primary factor that makes the Peloton Bike superior to a standard indoor cycling machine is its immersive training environment that will elevate your workouts to a new level.
You must pay an extra monthly fee for the all-access Peloton bike membership to receive the whole package. However, once you have paid this fee, you will have access to more than 50 qualified instructors who will mentor and inspire you to complete a range of workouts, from easy beginner workouts to challenging workouts set to upbeat music.
Every day, thousands of on-demand classes are available that you can filter by length, difficulty, instructor, music, and class type. This means that you will never be short on options, and unlike in a real-life class, you won’t feel under pressure to keep up with your peers. You may sort among the other participants to select your workout partner, and you can genuinely support and inspire one another while working out.
If you are an intensely competitive person who enjoys competing against others, you can utilize the leaderboard to compare your performance with other participants in your virtual class.
Your performance indicators, like output, heart rate, distance traveled, and cadence, are easily tracked on the screen so you can see how you’re doing over time. Personalized training plans are also available to help you reach your goals.
The panel is an outstanding 22-inch high-definition touchscreen that can be adjusted upwards or downwards to accommodate users of varying heights and watch at the ideal angle. It is somewhat broader than the first iteration. It is also sweat-resistant if you are concerned about getting it wet during an intense workout.
It has Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, a headphone jack, and rear-facing 16W stereo speakers that blast out music from workouts and directions.
With its quiet and smooth belt drive system, the bike has an adjustable resistance knob that allows you to alter the intensity of your exercises from 0 to 100. The teacher will typically recommend a degree of resistance during their workouts, and the exact resistance setting will be shown on the screen.
Another fantastic element I would like to draw attention to is the picturesque rides. A couple of Peloton’s picturesque rides were taken down a year or two ago, but many are still accessible to owners of all-access memberships. The more conventional riders who prefer riding outside on a real bike, especially in the chilly winter, will find these very appealing.
Lastly, it should be noted that the price of this specific model has decreased considerably in the years since the Peloton Bike+ was introduced. Although the newest model has a few neat features, most people will find that even the used Peloton Bike is more than adequate because it’s still robust.
Features
Frame
Peloton Bike is reliable and robust. Even when you get out of the saddle, it remains firmly in place on the ground. Robust stabilizers underneath the front and rear hold the bike firmly in place. The general design and geometry of the bike impress us.
For most riders, there are three points of adjustability. In addition to moving the handlebars up and down, you may move the seat forward and aft.
Taller riders, however, cannot slide the screen back away from their knees due to the handlebar stem’s absence of a fore/aft adjustment. Although the screen can be raised, it might not be sufficient to prevent knee intrusion when using the handlebars.
After being plugged into the rear stabilizer, the power wire can be plugged into any regular wall socket. The Peloton app cannot be used without WiFi and a wall outlet.
Pedals
A bicycle shoe with the Look cleats affixed must be used. Since these are not hybrid pedals, athletic shoes are not an option.
Flywheel
Its 19″ diameter helps it acquire and hold speed well, allowing a smooth rotation and an easy pedal stroke. Unlike lighter-weight wheels, there is zero jerkiness when pushing the pedals upward or heaviness in the rotation’s backside. The flywheel is in a protective housing to shield it from rust, dust, and other contaminants.
Seat
The saddle can be moved forward and aft, raised and lowered. The ideal position maintains the foot flat on the pedal and a mild 25–35-degree bend in the knee. The Peloton’s seat adjustability is sufficient. The saddle carriage and the seat tube include dimensions, so you can always find the ideal configuration. This is particularly useful for households with several riders.
Display
Although the screen is a good size, there are moments when it feels excessively enormous, particularly when you stand up from the saddle and hinge over the handlebars. The rider feels the screen slightly invades their headspace in this posture. On the other hand, when seated on the saddle, the screen is simple to view and access.
External cables extending from the screen’s rear are connected under the drive shield by a connection that dangles loosely down the back of the bike after being fastened to the mounting post with a Velcro strap. We don’t think this external wiring is the best. It may be hazardous and unclean.
The bike doesn’t rock or wobble when you ride because the screen is firmly fixed. It also makes a gentle up-and-down pivot. Still, it isn’t movable. You cannot move the screen to improve your view while taking classes off the bike. A side-to-side swivel of the screen would be incredibly convenient.
Resistance level
The flywheel is met with frictionless resistance from magnetic resistance. High-end bikes use this resistance because it is silent, eliminates friction points, and reduces wear and tear on the brake pads and flywheel. Neither the dashboard nor the bike have any buttons. Peloton, on the other hand, adjusts tension via a resistance knob.
Digital calibration can be used to achieve quantifiable and stable values of magnetic resistance. This eliminates the need for you to estimate your effort or the resistance you face on the flywheel. This is how resistance should be measured.
But 100 levels seems a tad excessive. When biking, we find that levels between 25 and 30 are optimum. At 100, you need to go up by 10 levels to notice a change. This provides more possibilities for incremental resistance, although most people don’t require so many little levels.

User Experience
Here is the Peloton Bike review by an owner
Brianna Thaxton from the United States states: This was totally worth it. I got it on sale for Black Friday, and I’d definitely wait for a sale since they have them throughout the year, but even at full price it’s worth it.
Amazon had drivers that could deliver and set it up for me. That was so nice. It works great. It’s quite and smooth…. and when you do the classes, it’ll kick your butt.
I can definitely feel my legs are getting stronger. Somehow I’m gaining weight instead of losing like I was hoping for, but I know muscle weighs more than fat… I’m sure I’m gaining muscle in my legs. It’d only been about a month, but I’m on it almost every day and love it.
My only complaint is the seat. It is so hard and narrow. I’m about 5’9″ and 145lbs. The seat is miserable to sit on for extended times.
Even with a gel seat cushion cover, it still hurts
I have seen wide seats with a smaller nose on them, I may upgrade to one of those.
I still say the bike is worth it though
On May 11th, 2023, Peloton announced a voluntary recall of the original Peloton model Bikes sold from January 2018 to May 2023 in the US. It offers members a replacement of their bike seat post as the approved repair. This voluntary Peloton bike recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Conclusion
The Peloton Bike, one of the priciest virtual bike solutions, is meant to be an all-in-one exercise solution on premium cardio equipment. In addition to the bike, you are paying for the exclusive training opportunity available from the convenience of your home.
